Wishing you Safe Holidays

December 11, 2019

Once again it's that festive time of the year when you can't find a single store which isn't playing Christmas jingles. All of the celebrations which come with the end of the year (Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, Las Posadas, Winter Solstice, even Saturnalia for all you heathens out there) can take their toll. For some, the holiday season is a chance to get time off work and relax. Others might be bustling with endless social and family commitments. However you're spending your holiday season, don't get too carried away by the merry-making.

Last year we posted a blog on Holiday tips to keep you drinking off the road. This year we've got a few more simple tips for you.

  1. If you're out and about, try out some non-alcoholic drinks. A non-alcoholic ginger beer/ale, Roy Rogers, club soda and bitters/lime, Virgin Mojito, or iced coffee are all non-alcoholic options that can blend in with their alcoholic counterparts.
  2. If you've been gifted a bottle of wine but are trying to go alcohol free, try regifting it to a neighbour. It'll save you the temptation and give you brownie points. The only problem is if they gift you back another bottle.
  3. If you're planning on consuming alcohol (or are the type to be easily tempted) have your back up plan in place. Go with a designated driver, check out your taxi/ uber options, maybe stay overnight at a mate's house.
  4. Be careful driving the morning after a big night. Alcohol levels can take a long time to disappear in the body, meaning that even if you feel fine, you might be breaking the law by driving with a BAC over 0.

If ever feels like getting through your alcohol interlock program is hard, just remember that you're contributing to keep Australian roads safe. It's easy to forget that an everyday activity like driving can end in tragedy, but it happens every day. So far there have been 1,012 lives lost on Australian roads in 2019. We all need to make responsible driving choices these holidays.

Check out our Christmas operating hours and decide if you need to make changes to your servicing plans. Most importantly, enjoy the holidays, however you and your family like to celebrate!
