NSW Mandatory Alcohol Interlock Program (MAIP)

This program is designed to allow DUI offenders to earn back their licence. The New South Wales Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) administers the alcohol interlock program.

Smart Start Interlocks is an RMS approved alcohol interlock supplier.

Completing the Program & Removal Process

If the final 6 months of your interlock period are free of violations, the interlock condition on your licence can be removed. RMS will advise you when your interlock participation period has been completed.

Device Information

Keep your alcohol interlock device in top condition by observing the following:

  • Don't place the device on the floor, out of sight/ear shot, or where it may be damaged.
  • Make sure that it is securely in its holder whenever the car is moving
  • Do not circumvent, tamper, or misuse the device.
  • Regularly calibrate your device by bringing it in for servicing. This keeps it accurate.
